Shortage of skills has been identified as a huge contributor to the high unemployment rate. Looking at the future growth of jobs and the country now preparing to gear up for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), those interested in coding face a high mountain to climb, especially those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
While formal education in tech fields have a high chance of employment, many others are still unable to get into varsity or technical colleges due to them being way too expensive — and it takes a long time to finish a degree!
Thankfully, coding bootcamps are here to bridge the gap and offer the student the much needed on the job skills. Many of the people who have finished the bootcamps, stand a high chance of obtaining jobs in some of the leading companies in the country.
Below we look as at some of the coding bootcamps currently offered in South Africa:
- Tshimologong Skills Academy
- mLab CodeTribe
- Code College
To start a bootcamp in many of the above, you simply need to have finished your matric (Grade 12).
Duration of bootcamp courses
Most programs run for 3–9 months.
